  • I wonder what you think of the water or magnetic resistance machines(?)
I thought about a Model D, but don't have space for it – and I didn't want to drive my wife crazy with noise (we keep different hours). I thought about magnetic, but I wanted something where the resistance would go up as I went faster (i.e. dynamic). My issue with the waterrower, even though it had that dynamic resistance, the only way to adjust the base resistance was to add/remove water. I ended up ordering a First Degree Fitness 'AR' machine. About the same cost as a Model D or a waterrower. Dynamic resistance from the water, base resistance adjustable with a knob. Small enough that it fits in my office, and it can roll around when up on its nose. Upended it's 21×20. The only thing I really don't like is the monitor's too low.
I'd report on mine, once I get it, but I'm a noob. WTH do I know?

  • Hey i would pay you twice of what you pay ..I certainly cannot afford the concept 2 in a while… my rowing machine for now is a resistance band and my skateboard 🛹 ..

  • I have been using Tunturi since 1983 and do it still almost daily (today mainly because of COV-19). I have never needed any spare parts. Tunturi works still perfectly.

  • I wish you would review a realistic high quality option for people with any budget but a tiny apartment in the city

  • Hi Dark Horse!

Really liked your the video very informative. Do you happen to have a review video on only the Tunturi rowing machine?

Christian Lanuevo July 5, 2020 12:49 am Reply
  • When I bought my Tunturi in 83, they pronounced it tune tury.

  • I have a Tunturi! Bought it in 1983.

  • Craigslist — bought a model C for $400….

  • Anglophones speaking Finnish is always cute.
I guess you could say it as:
Tun=toon (this is the syllable with the accent)
    Tu=two
Ri= rea (as in reason… But then with a stronger rolling r)

    It's gonna sound weird anyway.

  • I bought an $80 machine from Amazon and sent it right back. Got a Sunny Health Magnetic rower but I don't like it. Great point, though, that it got me moving and more interested in rowing than ever. Now I'm saving up 🙂

  • Guess what? Under quarantine there's no such thing as $1,000 rower for concept 2. Amazon is selling them for $1,700!!!!!! That is price gouging!

  • Man, I came for a row machine comparison, but just won't go to the point. I hate this kind of video. Waste of time.

  • So I have the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-RW5515 Magnetic Rowing Machine Rower w/LCD Monitor… I've been following your channel, but am wondering how to best do the ERG stuff? Is it only possible with the Concept 2? I might just hold out for the Peleton rower if I'm going to have to upgrade…

    stacy hayes-geer July 5, 2020 12:49 am Reply
  • Erg is not short for ergometer. Erg is a unit of energy. An ergometer measures energy used.

  • Could you do a rowing technique/workouts for the $10.00 rower? I got a discount Stamina 1205 and will be using it as C-19 may limit my gym visits. Besides I do not have space for the C-2 which I would really like to have!

  • You are certainly biased towards the Concept2. I'm sure it's great, but surely there are other good models.

Sirena Spades July 5, 2020 12:49 am Reply
  • To be honest, if you're on a tight budget and this old machine gets you exercising, then it's good. Maybe you can upgrade later and pass the old tunturi on to someone else starting out. Great video.

  • Would have liked to see a little more use review but decent review. I’ve used a few of these piston rowers and they can give you a pretty good workout. The main issue I seemed to find was that if you used them more than 10 or 15 minutes the pistons would get too hot. But usually they had enough resistance that going that long was good enough. I used them as a workout finisher vs as the workout.

  • <—using a Norditrack RW-900 cost me $1,899 the day it was released. beast of a machine, magnetic, and air resistance rowing, live interactive training videos, and google maps built in. i love rowing the amazon rainforest, london, and paris!

  • Hi, I enjoyed watching this video. I would have loved to buy a concept 2 rower; however, I spent a 💩 ton of money in 2019 and couldn’t spend that much on a rowing machine . I bought a Stamina magnetic row 1110 for $170 off of Walmart.com; so, I could pick it up and NOT have it delivered to the house. LOL!

Do you know anything about them? It received really good reviews and I like that it’s whisper quiet. I wish it had the interval counter technology. Maybe there is an app for that? Later on I’ll pick up one like yours or a western residence one.

Anyway, thanks for doing this video. Interesting 😁
